Helicopters are the dominant mode of air transportation, and they can normally be found on top of certain buildings. You won't have access to a plane until much later in the game, after completing the Film Studio missions. There's no way to steal another vehicle in midair, so you'll just have to keep looking on the ground.
Pilot a Helicopter
While in a helicopter use the X button to ascend and the square button to descend. Your tilt is controlled by the left analog stick, and turning the body relative to the blades is accomplished with the L2 and R2 buttons or the right analog stick.
Techniques
Drive-by--When in first-person view you can use the L2 and R2 buttons together to look straight down. You can fire a submachine gun out of a helicopter with no mounted guns, but only in cinematic view. Its effectiveness is minimal. The Sea Sparrow can fire a machine gun when you press circle. The Hunter fires missiles when you press circle and fires guns when you press R1.
Pilot a Plane
The Skimmer is the only flyable plane in the game. It must take off from the water, since it has floats for landing gear. Gain speed by climbing and diving alternately, making sure not to touch down in the water again. You'll lose airspeed during turns, so be careful. Overall this vehicle is much less precise than a helicopter.
Techniques
Drive-by--If you must, you can fire a submachine gun out of your plane window. The application is severely limited though.

Taking a motorcycle is slightly different in that the method depends on your relation to the bike. If you're directly in front of a bike and press triangle, you'll leap onto the bike knocking off anyone who was previously using the machine. If you're anywhere else, you'll need to perform a quick elbow that will send the driver flying. Press triangle again to mount the bike. Just be wary that it's easy for police to do the same to you, and you'll be busted with a swift elbow.
Drive One
Bikes have a few distinct advantages over cars, but they also carry a few substantial handicaps. With a good bike, you can weave in and out of traffic with deft skill, zip down alleys that cars simply can't fit into, and even perform wheelies and stoppies. The downside is that if you hit something while on a bike, you'll go flying. Depending on the severity of your crash, you'll lose armor and health. Here are a few pointers on bikes:

• Not all bikes are created equal. There simply isn't as much variety in bikes as there is in cars. The PCJ600 is definitely the cream of the crop. It's fast, agile, and stylish. The Sanchez is fairly agile, hard to wreck, and good on dirt or sand. The Faggio and Pizza Boy are scooters with medium stats, but they're unable to perform tricks. Lastly, the Freeway and Angel are clunky bikes with a high top speed but unresponsive handling.
• Remember to use alleys and ramps. Bikes have a distinct advantage in being able to fit through narrow passages and cut through alleys. This can give you an edge over the police if you don't slam into something inadvertently.

Techniques
Shifting your weight--Pushing up lightly on the analog stick will make you hug the bike and will increase your speed, and pulling back will slow you down and decrease your speed. Other tricks are possible through shifting your weight.
Wheelie--Pull back slightly on the left analog stick and accelerate. When your wheel is off the ground, pump the gas to sustain the wheelie. Keep it up long enough and you'll get a cash bonus and a record of your stunt. Wheelies can also be used to launch your bike over walls
Stoppie--The opposite of a wheelie, a stoppie is performed by shifting your weight forward to bring your back wheel off the ground. Simply press your brake (square) and your emergency brake (R1) at the same time while holding up on the left analog stick. You'll slide forward and can change the direction you're facing. On a fast bike like the PCJ, you can reverse your direction and open fire on your pursuers with a submachine gun.
Drive-by--This works just like it does in a car, except that you can also fire ahead of you. Simply press circle to spray lead straight ahead. You can check behind you by pressing the L2 and R2 buttons simultaneously.
Rev up--This trick will allow you to get slightly quicker starts from a standstill. Hit forward and reverse simultaneously, then let go of reverse. You'll switch gears earlier than normal and thus pick up speed a bit faster.

Need for Speed Shift doesn’t feel like an Android game. It feels like a slick, fully-realized AAA game you’d find on a console, albeit a bit shorter. You know the difference: A good Android game sometimes feels like a nice little diversion, while a console game feels more like an engrossing experience, something you look forward to coming back to. If all the cute cartoony animals from the two-stick shooters and $1 diversions that are proliferating in the App Store were crossing a highway, NFS Shift would be the roaring Lamborghini running them over.
How does NFS Shift create such deep and nuanced gameplay from the Android’s simple tilt-to-steer controls? We really thought using your Android as a steering wheel would only lead to casual racing games, but NFS Shift’s cockpit view and sensitive tilting makes you feel like you really are the driver. The controls become even more impressive as you begin to realize how different cars handle speed and steering. You can feel a noticeable difference between the driving capabilities of a tier 1 Mazda and a tier 4 Lamborghini.
To win at NFS Shift you need to learn how to drive like a pro, which means you need to know how to race courses more efficiently. But don’t worry, because NFS Shift pleasantly bridges the gap between arcade and simulation racers. The game provides you with a line on the track which shows you the ideal way to drive the course, and even rewards you with experience points if you stay on the line. The line glows red at turns to signal you to hit the brakes by tapping the screen. It all sounds pretty easy, but you’ll definitely need to know how to use these skills as the cars get faster and the turns get steeper.
You can also drift your car to victory in special drifting challenges. Drifting is the art of applying your emergency brake during turns in order to slide your car around a bend diagonally. What you need to know about drifting is that it takes a completely different skill set than winning races, and once you get a hang of it, you will feel cooler than Steve McQueen.
To initiate a drift, you need to jerk your device sharply in the direction of the turn. Your goal is to keep the drift going for a long time by keeping your car diagonal with the road. If you turn your car perpendicular, you’ll hit the wall, and if you keep it too straight it’ll be completely unimpressive. It’s an art.
The Need For Speed Shift experience is highly focused. Everything makes you want to go fast. The aggressive, screaming music augments the “drive fast, think later” feeling. How can you not want to leave some suckers in the dust when you’re listening to lyrics like “Run with wolves” and “The streets are ours”? All the menus are so touchable, we found ourselves going through upgrade and car selection screens like we raced the races: fast, with a devil-may-care attitude.
It also helps that the cars are so unbelievably sexy. From the retro badassed Dodge Challenger prototype to the hot as fire Porsche 911 GT2, we never want to go back to Burnout or GTA’s fictionalized cars ever again.
There are also driving levels to progress through, achievements to earn for feats such as drifting and overtaking other cars, and two sides to align yourself with. Are you a precise driver or an aggressive driver? Do you like running other drivers into walls or getting around them without a scratch? The game will analyze how you drive and assign you to one category. See you on the dark side.
NFS Shift is a tough game, but it’s a good tough, a tough you’ll want to push through. Sometimes the nitro button will get stuck, though, or you’ll miss a turn because of some small frame rate issues, but honestly, these are pebbles which the game crushes under its 150 mph wheels.
Even if you’re not a fan of racing games, or don’t drive to work in a Formula 1 car every day, it’s hard to not get caught up in Need For Speed Shift’s exhilarating pace.

I reckon this mobile edition of Vice City is only going to be appreciated by longing nostalgics who fondly remember bad Hawaiian shirts, the Lance Vance dance, and getting in golf caddy chases.
It's not that Vice City has aged poorly, by any means. But if you're having to wrestle with antiquated gameplay, choppy PS2-era graphics, and bad controls, it might not be so appreciated by fresh eyes.
